British designer continues to draw on home grown traditions.
The globally recognised, quintessentially British lingerie label, Ayten Gasson, supports the few remaining underwear factories in the UK. In addition to Nottingham lace, new lace is sourced from companies based in the UK to support the few people still manufacturing in the country. And the new Spring Summer 2012 continues those fine traditions.
Central St Martin’s graduate Ayten Mustafa, who founded the Ayten Gasson label in 2005, has cornered the British lingerie market by tapping into her customers’ desires. Researching her fan base, the designer has captured the portrait of a lady and designed a super-feminine collection with vintage appeal for each collection.
The latest Spring Summer 2012 collection will be arriving in stores in mid January and heralds a new beginning for the brand. Familiar key pieces have been upgraded with a twist, with new shapes such as a silk georgette bodysuit and organic silk high waisted bridal knickers.
Introducing not only new shapes to the latest collection, but new fabrics from UK suppliers, the brand continues its commitment to produce a quintessentially British product. All the ranges within the collection have been influenced by the favourite childhood sweets of her north London studio collective, including Ayten’s assistant Sarah Graham. The innovative collection includes: Rebecca, Lara, Natalie, Lucky and, of course, Sarah. The full range of pulse-quickening pieces for SS12 features not only bodysuits and high-waisted knickers, but also classic silk teddies, nightdresses, soft bras and knicker sets – all produced with beautiful English lace, often hand-crafted vintage trims, which are used to embellish the stunning silk silhouettes.
Traditionalists will savour the best vintage lace trims, sourced from the old lace mills in Nottingham to highlight the incredible skills which the area was once famous for. Playful types will love the peek-a-boo cut-outs and lace backed knicker. The romantics will enjoy the feel of the finest luxury silks, and the eco-conscious will welcome the cruelty-free Eco Lingerie range.
In addition, a limited edition range, exclusively available from the designer’s website from January, features lace designed and made by Roger Watson, who famously created the lace for Princess Diana’s wedding dress in 1981. The lace is teamed with peace silk (vegan silk) and hand finished with hand tied bows.
Ayten Gasson’s silk creations are stocked in some of the most exclusive boutiques in the world, such as Tallulah Lingerie, Lulu & Lush, Bordello, and Fenwick’s of Bond Street in the UK. The label has also secured contacts with luxury department store Le Bon Marche in Paris, and many
